Q; Where can I buy Appletons Wool?

A; We are afraid we do not have a shop, however, we would welcome visitors by appointment as we may not be in the workshop. If you would like to collect a kit or you are working on a project and wish to match or choose your Appletons wool, then please email sales@cleopatrasneedle.co.uk or telephone our mobile 0757 242 1022.

We stock, all 421 colours in both Crewel and Tapestry wool (2 & 4 Ply respectively), available in the full hank, half hanks or skeins

Q; Where can I buy Tapestry, Needlepoint kits?

A; We stock a wide range of tapestry/needlepoint kits, starting with the tapestry kits for beginners through to the larger more complicated spectacle cases, herb pillows and cushions.

Q; Where can I buy John James Needles?

A; We are starting to stock and increase the range of John James needles, currently we stock a range of tapestry/needlepoint needles, please contact us if you require anything else.

Q; Which wool shall I use for tapestry/needlepoint or embroidery?

A; This depends upon what you want to do, for general tapestry on 10 and 12 holes per inch (hpi) canvas you can use the tapestry wool, 4 ply, this is four strands of wool, twisted together, giving you a thicker yarn, generally this cannot be undone. For finer tapestry work on 14, 18 and 20 hpi canvas you can use the crewel wool, 2 ply, the 2 ply can be undone, which enable you to use, 2, 3 or 4 strands of wool, you can even blend the colours! The world is your oyster.

Crewel wool is also used for Embroidery on linen or other suitable materials, again split to the single thread.

Q; What’s included within a Cleopatra’s Needle Kit?

A; In all our kits we include stitching instructions and where appropriate as in the  Herb Pillows, Cushions, Lavender Hearts and Spectacle Cases, you will find a printed canvas, Appletons wool, needle, stitching chart, stitching and assembly instructions, and where appropriate any backing/lining material, braid/cord or lavender seed sachet.
